What made us to start Way2SMS

September 23rd, 2009

Although SMS has gained tremendous popularity, its growth has been hampered in countries such as India due to high costs that have to be borne by the mobile user. Every media is largely funded by advertisers except mobile . Participation of advertisers in any media will bring down the costs enormously to the end users. You take the television Media, One can enjoy over 150 channels , 24 hours by just paying Rs.3 – 5 per day. News paper with 40 pages costs just Rs.2 per day. Its all because of the advertisers who funds the rest on behalf of the consumers.

Currently India’s mobile user base is more than a staggering 40 crores. When it comes to end subscribers, the advertising potential is as huge as the Indian print media. However, Indian advertisers, till recently, did not have the right platform to reach out to this ever growing base of Indian mobile users.

Furthermore, brand & media companies have been trying to reach out to their consumers on mobile phones in mobile dense countries like India. These advertisers prefer targeted advertising capturing the users’ attention. Traditional advertising channels such as TV, Radio, newspaper, billboards and the like, were not able to capture the complete attention of the consumers. SMS marketing is thus a great tool to acquire and retain customers – ensuring that a high level of brand loyalty is maintained.

Trying to address these problems and combining the needs of consumers and advertisers, Way2SMS has come up with the idea of giving partial screen space to advertisers and the rest to the mobile users. Since the advertiser funds the user communication, users can communicate more for nothing. Moreover, from an advertiser’s point of view, his money is well spent, since every user acts as a brand ambassador for the advertiser.
