Internet services have been disrupted, Impact on Way2SMS

Internet services have been disrupted in large parts of India following damage to two undersea cables in the Mediterranean. There was disruption to 60% of the nationwide network in India.Both our Canada and US data centers are also experiencing troubles due to this. We’re having serious delivery issues currently . We know how many people rely on Way2SMS for communicating critical information, and we take it very seriously when there’s a problem with the service. Thus, right up front, we would like to apologize to all of you.Temporarily, we are running degraded messaging service. This will result in delayed delivery to many of you. However, our engineers are working very hard to push messages via alternative networks and we’re really sorry for the inconvenience. Thanks for bearing with us while we sort this out. We’ll report back as we make progress.

As of today, Way2SMS now serves 10 million people across the country. It’s a large number, Just 8 months ago we served less than half as many people, and thanks to you we’ve made great progress over the last year towards reaching every corner in the country. Less than 10 seconds benchmark

Every day, millions of SMSes are being sent via Way2SMS. The numbers are growing rapidly. The following numbers tells the story of how we’ve grown over the past 3 years in terms of number of SMS delivered per day.

Users were sending over 3 lakh SMSes per day in 2008. By 2009 that number was 15 lakh SMS per day, and by 2010 it has grown to 75 lakh per day. Today we are touching 9 million SMS per day. That’s an average of 150-200 throughputs per second.

We know many of you are having trouble delivering messages from past couple of days. Due to the platform up gradation at the telecom service provider level , Way2SMS is experiencing volatile delivery from past couple of days. Many of you have faced delivery issues to several numbers during this period. Operators tweaking work has been finished and the platform is back and is even better now.

SMS usage sees new highs during New Year eve
